Updates to the Patrol site. The Japan version of the CD is out now. The messageboard is down indefinitely. I will add something to the site at a future date to allow viewers to contribute that is not so easily spammed.

2006 February 12

I am sorry for lack of updates. I am working on this site as much as I can in my free time. I do have more Patrol setlists and stuff, which I'll put up shortly. Now, to the news.

Patrol's album is done, and it's pretty incredible. It was produced by Matt Bayles (who has worked with Pearl Jam, Botch, Blood Brothers, Minus the Bear and others) and is coming out on Stiff Slack in Japan, with no US label. The Stiff Slack version will have ten tracks, whereas the US release (when that happens) will have nine. The track list is:

Destinations * Suspect * Bro Pal * Carve * Relax * Patrol * Our Compromise * Proof * The Arraignment * Conduct Unbecoming

What's up with Johanthon Ford? He's (mostly) moved back to Seattle, and has been playing bass in Ester Drang and will continuing working with Unwed Sailor. The White Ox and Circles, the two new Unwed Sailor records, will be coming out in March.

In Matt Johnson news, he's been recording with the one-and-only Jeremy Enigk. I don't know much about the new Jeremy record, but Matt seems excited about it playing on it. Apparently Jeremy has started a new record label (Lewis Hollow Records) which will have a major distributor.

I've been saying this for a while, but I'm much closer to finishing a total redesign of this site. It will make updating easier for me and there will be a ton of info for obsessive fans. I've done my homework, kids, and I'll soon be sharing it with you.

2005 August 11

No, this site isn't dead, it's just been asleep. I've recently moved and have been quite overwhelmed with that stuff. We should be returning to semi-regular updates now.

The Patrol section has been updated with sets and scans from the last few shows. Patrol is sitting on nine or ten songs now, with the intent to record a full-length. The new material is stellar. Unfortunately, Jake Reisenbichler has parted ways with the band so he can return to school. I know they've been looking for a new bass player and will probably announce one soon. They may or may not play one last show with Jake, depending on when their next show is.

Supine to Sit is in limbo after the departure of their bass player, Josh. Here's to hoping we see Supine back on stage again, but if not, best of luck to Drew, Luke, and Matt and whatever future projects they may persue.

Unwed Sailor is back in action, with a brand new website. Head over there for tour dates and a brand new track.

Suffering and the Hideous Thieves has a new record out called Ashamed. As always, pick this stuff up. I haven't picked up my copy yet (I plan to do when I see them play on Saturday at the Vera Project in Seattle), but I'll have info on who plays on it later.

And oh yeah, the FTP is down... I never bothered to set up a new one now that I've moved. Downloads are going to be handled differently on the new site... I'm not sure how yet, but they will be.

2005 April 15

I updated the Patrol section with the recent sets and stuff. I also threw some low-bitrate fun on the FTP in the form of Supine to Sit and Suffering and the Hideous Thieves from 2005-01-21. Still working on the new site when I can.

2005 March 31

Patrol has put up two more songs on their site. Upcoming shows:

Sunday, April 3 @ Sureshot Espresso in Seattle w/ Joules and Speaker Speaker. 2pm, all ages, Patrol plays second.
Sunday, April 10 @ El Corazon (Graceland) in Seattle. TOOL Cover Night, Patrol will play two Tool songs with a female singer. Also featuring Hayoke, If/Then, and Red X. 7pm, 21+.

2005 January 23

A few random notes... the Supine to Sit/Suffering and the Hideous Thieves/benefit for Kevin Barrans show two nights ago was a blast. Supine played a great set despite Drew having a nasty cold, and it was rad of him to get up there and rock for us anyway. Suffering was excellent... it's been way to long since those guys have played. Matt not only tore it up with Supine, but played drums for Hidari Mae and threw down some extra percussion during the Suffering set. Suffering has a new split-7" available, I would wholeheartedly recommend you pick it up at MakeBreak Records.

Also, Patrol has finished recordings for what will be a self-released EP which will be available soon. The next Patrol show is February 5th at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma, WA, with Post Stardom Depression and Mono in VCF. 21+. Hopefully I'll have some more news on the EP after that.

2005 January 13

The Patrol section has been updated again with the latest show. The band is entering the studio this weekend to throw down some more demo tracks, with plans to have something out to purchase by the end of February. Keep an eye on this site and the Patrol site for more info.

2005 January 9

The Patrol section has been updated, and I'm happy to bring you the first ever pictures of the band in action. The next Patrol show is on Wednesday, January 12th at The Crocodile in Seattle. This is Patrol's first-ever headlining show, so please, if you can make it, come out and see them!

2004 December 8

There is now a section of the site for Patrol, with new info. Eventually this will look pretty, for now it's just text. Also, eventually all Roadside-related bands will have their own sections.

Next Patrol show: 2005-01-07 @ The Paradox, Seattle, WA with Kane Hodder, Blue Sky Mile and The Cops.

2004 December 1

Supine To Sit has another show coming up: 1/21/05 - Seattle, WA @ The Paradox - A Benifit for Kevin Barrans w/The Prom, Dear Dearling & Hidari Mae

2004 October 20

Patrol has three shows coming up:

Nov. 3 - Chop Suey, Seattle, WA with Dark Sergeant and Built Like Alaska, 21+
Nov. 4 - Hell's Kitchen, Tacoma, WA with Eyes of Autumn and Roy, 21+
Dec. 6 - Graceland, Seattle, WA with Roots of Orchis and Karate, all ages

This is also very important:

Kevin Barrans, drummer for Suffering and the Hideous Thieves, was recently in a motorcycle accident. He has no medical insurance, and has already missed almost 2 months of work. He will probably not be able to work for a couple more months, at least. These bands are made up of his friends, and are offering their talent to raise money to help Kevin pay his everyday bills, as well as contribute as much as possible to his thousands of dollars in medical bills...

TWO SHOWS!!

Nov. 16 - Tractor Tavern, Seattle, WA

The Prom (One Time Only Reunion Show!)
Graham Travis (solo acoustic)
Dear Darling

Nov. 17 - Sunset Tavern, Ballard, WA

Hard Money Saints
Supine To Sit
Western States
Airport Cathedral
w/ DJ Shortnin

2004 September 22

Patrol just finished up their set at the Crocodile and sounded great... they played the same five songs, and they sounded even better this time around. Setlist and stuff forthcoming.

2004 September 15

Catch Patrol at The Crocodile in Seattle on the 22nd.

2004 July 9

Patrol just finished their very first set at the Redmond Y. The set was as follows:

  • Suspect -- A straight-ahead rocker similar in style to "Zizzyx" and some of the other stuff Roadside was working on.
  • Seven Judges -- A song that starts off with a gentler melody and has some great vocals, gets pretty chaotic (good!) toward the end.
  • Our Compromise -- A little bit of a different sound on this one than we've heard from Doug in the past. Starts out with a steady rhythm and more of a focus on the vocals, another dramatic finish.
  • Patrol -- A song that Roadside was working on last year, with a new arrangment for the new band.
  • The Arraignment -- You've all heard this one by now, sounded great live....
Many familiar and friendly faces out in the crowd tonight. If you were there, hit up the forum and share your thoughts.

2004 July 7

Don't forget that Doug's new band, Patrol, is playing their first show at the Old Firehouse in Redmond, WA (also known as the "Redmond Y") this Friday. Patrol just recorded a three-song demo... one track from that, "The Arraignment," is available at the Patrol site and the Roadside FTP.

2004 June 1

Doug's new band, Patrol, is set to play their first show at the Old Firehouse in Redmond, WA (also known as the "Redmond Y") on Friday, July 9. Also notable is that Jake Reisenbichler (Padre, Black Eagle) has joined the band on bass, making it a four-piece. Skippy King on guitar, and Eric Junge (also with The Building Press, playing this show as well) round out the rest of the group. Make sure to come out and check out the new stuff... check the Patrol site for more info.

2004 April 29

Supine To Sit just finished up their April shows. Unfortunately Decahedron wasn't able to be on hand for the Tuesday show, but many friendly faces (Doug Lorig, Damien Jurado, Jeff Suffering, etc.) were in the crowd. Supine has another date scheduled:

06/19/04 - Seattle, WA @ The Paradox

Their site implies they'll be assembling some kind of a tour soon... catch these guys if you can. I caught the last two shows and was thoroughly blown away. Check the forum, I'll be posting a review and setlists soon.

2004 April 23

Sorry it took so long to get that all up and running again. My e-mail address is now working again, and we have a brand new forum. Unfortunately that means everyone will have to register again, but the old one didn't want to seem to click with the new server. Please take time to register and post some nonsense in the off-topic forum, and if anything isn't working properly (I know that uploading avatars isn't working at the moment, but I need to get some sleep) let me know.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new Supine to Sit, Decahedron, and Suffering and the Hideous Thieves records. And I was wrong in the last new post... now that I see the CD in front of me here, it appears Matt Johnson does play some percussion on the new Suffering record.

2004 April 14

Hey kids... just wanted to mention that there was some small downtime at the site last night, but it's resolved. The site is being moved onto a bigger and better server, that's all. Also, the forum appears to be down for the moment. I'll get that resolved as soon as possible.

2004 April 03

Just a small note to say that your friendly Roadside Monument webmaster can now be reached at anthony@roadsidemonument.com. If you have any questions about shows, the site, etc... you can reach me there or in the forums.

Also notable is that the new Suffering and the Hideous Thieves record comes out on April 20th. It's shipping right now from Lujo if you want to pick it up there. I don't think any of the Roadside guys play on the record this time around, but it's still required listening for any Roadside fan or -- for that matter -- anyone who loves brilliant, captivating, highly orchestrated pop/rock music.

2004 March 28

April 19th will be a wonderful day for all of us, as we see the release of both Decahedron's Disconnection Imminent and Supine To Sit's Break Out Your Indicator, both being released by Lovitt. Decahedron is of course where you will find Johnathon playing bass now, and although he joined after the record was recorded, you'll want to pick up this record because it's great and because you'll want to know the songs for when you catch the band on tour (see below). Supine To Sit is of course where you will now find Matt, and from what I've heard of this record you will be definitely wanting to pick it up as well.

In the world of Decahedron, here are the most recent tour dates:

04/02/04, 04/03/04 - Harrisonburg, VA @ Macrock Festival w/ Ester Drang (!!), others -- Decahedron is playing on the 3rd in the JMU PC Ball Room, here's the schedule

04/08/04 - Charlottesville, VA @ TBA w/ Q and not U Benifit to aid Shelter for Help in Emergency
04/15/04 - Brooklyn, NY @ Northsix w/ Nakatomi Plaza
04/16/04 - Baltimore, MD @ Ottobar w/ Beauty Pill & Q And Not U [info]
04/17/04 - Washington DC @ Black Cat *RECORD RELEASE SHOW!!* w/ Beauty Pill & City Goats
04/18/04 - Lewisburg, PA @ Henderfest@ Local 193 U
04/19/04 - Buffalo, NY @ Mohawk Place w/ Scout Niblett
04/20/04 - Grand Rapids, MI @ Division Ave. Arts Cooperative w/ TBA
04/21/04 - Chicago, IL @ Fireside Bowl w/ Yaphet Kotto & Mannequin [info]
04/23/04 - Omaha, NE @ Sokol Underground w/ Scout Niblett
04/24/04 - Denver, CO @ Hi-Dive w/ TBA
04/25/04 - Salt Lake City, UT @ Kilby Court w/ TBA
04/27/04 - Seattle, WA @ Sunset Tavern w/ Supine to Sit (!!!), Hidari Mae
05/04/04 - Houston, TX @ The Axiom w/ White Whale, & TBA
05/12/04 - Carrborro, NC @ Room 4 @ Go Rehearsal w/ Shannon Wright & Bellfea
05/13/04 - Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church 267.977.6264 w/ Trans Am, Les Gorges Leningrad, and The Frequency r5 productions
05/14/04 - Washington DC @ TBA

And in the world of Supine To Sit, we see those two dates:

04/23/04 - Seattle, WA @ Ground Zero
04/27/04 - Seattle, WA @ Sunset Tavern w/ Decahedron (!!!)

The more clever of you have probably noticed from these dates that both Supine To Sit and Decahedron are playing in Seattle on April 27th. That should be something... I'll be there.

Patrol is perched at the top of a tall rock and roll tree, just waiting for the right moment to strike with its razor-like talons. Or something like that. Doug's new band should be finishing up its demo now, and will be playing some shows this summer.

2004 February 12

I finally stopped being lazy and got that Raft of Dead Monkeys show from January on the FTP, as well as new stuff from Decahedron and Supine To Sit. Those last two groups have albums on the way this year, so make sure to check them out.

My e-mail address is offline at the moment as my other server is being relocated, so if you need to get a hold of me, just post something in the forums.

Again the FTP info is manicpop.dhs.org -- use "roadside" as a username, password is unimportant. If you're not sure how to connect, try to find some information online or wait a bit, I'll have a page dedicated to the FTP server up soon.

2004 January 15

Remember that Decahedron is hitting the road in less than a month! Make sure to catch these guys if you can, and send reviews my way. Obviously I won't be able to catch them until they (hopefully!) hit the west coast later, so let me know what to expect. (Dates updated 25 January 2004... 18 Feb date changed!)

02/24/04 - Washington D.C. @ The Black Cat w/ The Aquarium

04/02/04, 04/03/04 - Harrisonburg, VA @ Macrock Festival w/ Ester Drang (!!), others

Scattered dates in March and another tour in April for Decahedron will be announced later. The record will be out in April on Lovitt. Unwed Sailor will probably be back in action around May.

I haven't heard any dates for Supine To Sit, however it's worth noting that they will also have a release out this year on Lovitt.

Raft of Dead Monkeys played their first show in quite a while a few weeks ago in Seattle, and it was great to see Doug and Matt on-stage again. Word is, if schedules and such work out (and if we ask really, really nicely) they might do it again sometime. I'm going to try to get this show on the FTP tonight.

2004 January 14

Hey, everyone... I'm Anthony and I'm the new webmaster of roadsidemonument.com. As you may have seen in the forums, Lars is pretty busy and with Roadside Monument being inactive now, he wanted to pass the site along to someone else. I've been contributing to the site for a while now... most notably providing the reviews, setlists, and posters from the five Seattle Roadside shows during their 2002-2003 run. I also taped the last show. You may also know me as "ManicPop" on the forums.

Some things to know about me... I consider Roadside Monument among my favorite bands (obviously!), I live in the Seattle area, I have a LiveJournal, I have an old high school band (YSIB), I have a new band called Chalk Outline that doesn't have a site yet.

There won't be too many changes coming soon. The forums and all the info will stay put and I'll update with anything new I hear from the Roadside guys. I see Doug (and occasionally Matt) at Seattle-area shows fairly often so if they have any news on their new projects, it'll be here. For the next few weeks, I'll be making some changes behind-the-scenes to help me manage the site better, then later you'll see some new info and other cool stuff. Finally... the e-mail if you want to get a hold of me: anthony@ysib.com. You can always reach me in the forums as well.

07.28.03

07.09.03

Apologies all around. My computer crashed not too long after I moved into my new apartment, so I do not have access to any of my files. Let's hope I didn't lose everything because all of the MP3s are on that computer. For the time being, I am using my roommate's computer for Tangzine things, and hopefully mine will be up and running soon.

The new Unwed Sailor album, The Marionette and the Music Box, is absolutely stunning. I finally received it this past week in the mail (after pre-ordering it in March). The hardbound book certainly adds to the beautiful story Johnathon, Nic, and friends have written for this album. I highly recommend it. Unwed Sailor will be going on tour in August.

Someone put up a Black Eagle site with some live MP3s, so check those out.

05.17.03

I've added setlists and show posters to the shows page. Muchos gracias to Anthony for the scans. If you have scans of old show posters, setlists, or bootlegs (especially of the last show), please let me know at lars59@uga.edu.

I may not be able to update this site for a little while. I'm moving and it might take a while to get internet hooked up.

05.07.03

To prevent any rumors, I got the news straight from the band and May 3rd was Roadside Monument's last show. Matt wrote, "I'm too busy to really pursue it the way the other guys would like. That and we'd all like to leave the T&N stigma behind." Johnathon continues, "We made the decision based on our lack of ability to function as a touring band. Doug and I are in the process now of starting a new band. We are both really excited about it. We will keep you updated with current information as it comes along." I think Johnathon and Doug will use some of the new songs that Roadside had been performing live and demo-ing in Seattle. Some of the songs include "Zizzyzx," "The Black Guest," "Patrol," and two others. You can currently hear a rough, live recording of "The Black Guest" in the forum (thanks to Anthony).

I'm both sad and excited about the news. From what others have told me, the new material is really quite something, and it will be interesting to see what becomes of Johnathon and Doug's new band. But like all of you, it's too bad we didn't get another recording under the Roadside Monument guise with the incredible drumming of Matt Johnson. I'm veery thankful I had the opportunity to see Roadside Monument last summer at Cornerstone. Anyone that was there can attest to the fantastic energy in both the band and the audience.

A few have expressed concern about roadsidemonument.com and it's future due to the news. I got an especially sweet deal from Carter and I have the domain until January. Whether or not I renew the domain in 2004 is unknown. But I will update the download section more often. I also plan to develop a complete discography for each member of Roadside.

04.30.03

Sorry for not updating this recently. I've been busy with school and the radio station I work at (WUOG).

Roadside Monument w/Vermillion.
Saturday, May 3rd @ Vera Project.
Seattle, WA
all ages. $10

from Johnathon...
the new unwed sailor full length record the marionette and the music box is now available at your local record store, or online at www.insound.com or www.burnttoastvinyl.com the vinyl versions and the hardbound book versions will follow shortly. the hardbound book will only be available online at www.burnttoastvinyl.com or from us on tour. we are really excited about this release....it has literally been 2 years in the making. jamie hunt(circle of birds)has done an amazing job with the artwork. there are 17 original paintings that coincide with 17 original songs.

also, in case you missed our last 2 releases you can pick those up online at www.burnttoastvinyl.com as well. one is "the magic hedge" 7" released in europe on tricycle-evolutif records... the other is our limited edition split tour 7" with the swiss band toboggan. it was released on gentlemen records and is limited to 250 copies.

unwed sailor will be touring again in july in the U.S.

I've already pre-ordered the CD, vinyl, and book from Burnt Toast. Scott's a good guy, so give him your business. While you're there, pick up I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Wilco documentary) for a mere $20 (it's the lowest price I've seen).

04.05.03

There's an auction on Ebay for an Eight Hours 2xLP. Click here.

I'm sorry about the Black Eagle demo. I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm taking it off for the time being. Soon those other downloads will be gone to make space, so get them while you can.

03.08.03

In other cultures, it is custom for the birthday boy/girl to give gifts instead of receiving them. Therefore, on my 20th birthday I am offering the Black Eagle (Doug Lorig's "metal" band) demo in the download section. I also fixed the Supine to Sit demo, so you can download those now. Happy birthday to everyone!

03.05.03

There's a t-shirt auction on Ebay for an Eight Hours design. The shirt was sold on the recent tour along with the I Am the Day shirt (which I didn't buy for some reason). The seller makes no mention what size it is other than it is "just too big" for him. So ask him about it.

Glad to see people using the forum, but I've noticed all current registered members are male. Hmmm.

03.01.03

Welcome to www.roadsidemonument.com! It's been a long time coming. First and foremost, I would like to thank Carter at Vagrant Hosting for all his help.
